Chapter 393's Auburn, CA Fly-Out |
|
| The Chapter Fly-out on 1-29-2000 to Auburn California was attended by 17 people & eight airplanes. Quite a turnout for such a small chapter. | Information and photos submitted by Duane Allen |
|
Here is the group of attendees at my table, minus me of course. I
took the picture. Maybe Bruce Seguine will send me his pictures that he took from
the other end of the table. For a larger image, click on the photo. Starting closest to the camera on the left is Bob Belshe, his wife Sally (barely visible), Harvard & Sara Holmes then Judy and Ron Robinson. |

Then at the other table (which you can see in the background of the
picture above) is this friendly group That is Bill Boydstun's friend at the left, Bill, Vi (barely visible) and husband Fred Egli at the end, see their Lancair 4 below. On the right is Linda soon to be Tiritilli, Tony Tiritilli and of course at all fly-outs is Phil Jenkins, (Kent Seguine rode with him). In front center with the pearly whites is Lou Ellis, retired DDS. |
|
Bruce took this picture with his hi-resolution camera, but the image was backlit, so I had to do some tweaking and couldn't get it to look like I wanted. I need more experience in manipulating digital photos. |
|
Of course it would not be fair to leave out the two guys who sat by
themselves. The Wings Grill & Expresso Bar was quite busy when we arrived so
seating everyone together was not possible. Bruce Seguine, past president of 393 and his son Kent got a window seat (by the cash register). It was awfully nice of you to volunteer to sit by yourselves. I saw you guys checking out the six view of one waitresses. But you were not the only ones noticing. |
|
After we ate and were standing around talking I managed to get a few more
pictures. There was some discussion about another Sedona type fly-out.
Suggestions can be made to Bob, me, or anyone else in the group and we will bring it up at
the next meeting. They are, Bob Belshe, Tony Tiritilli, Sara & Harvard Holmes, Sally Belshe, Linda Tiritilli and Judy Robinson. |

Tony, Linda, Bruce and Judy. |

Here is the fastest airplane of the group. They left last and landed
first. This is the first time I have used a picture of their beautiful bird. So,
when do I get a ride Fred? Fred and Vi Egli's Lancair 4. A real work of art. |

And the other side too. |

And here is Bill Boydstun's freshly painted Cherokee 140. First
chance I have had to photograph it. You did a nice job Bill, nice interior too. |

And here is the other side of Bill's Cherokee. I took two pictures so thought I'd use them both, the background is so different between looking east or west. |

Bruce took this picture of me and in the larger image, you see two 177s in
tight formation. Just Kidding, I wouldn't dare fly this close, but it seemed that way when Jim Barrilleaux, (U2 pilot) came in close to take these inflight photos May 15, 1999 @ Hollister, CA. Photos by Steven Marsh using Audrey's 35mm. camera and Jim B. flying his own Cardinal 34833. |

No inflight photo of Grace and Lou Ellis in their Glasair II RG, but I did get this one of them at the airport.. Sorry for the grainy appearance, but I had to tweak the colors due to glare off the airplane.
|
|
Here is Bob & Sally Belshe's Lancair 235/320. Flying a new
2-bladed prop. with no spinner at Auburn. I hope that is OK Bob. |
|
Bob prepares for the trip back to Concord as Ron Robinson looks on. |

Bruce caught Judy just as she was getting into their "magic carpet" for the flight back to Concord. It is a Glasair 1 RG. Obviously from looking at this picture, I need a new digital camera. Click here or on the photo to see the real quality of the photo. |
|
Phil and Barb Jenkins' Glasair 2RG. He is in the process of repainting it as of the date this page was updated. Click here to see him at work. |
|
Well, I guess I have to use one with clutter as this is the only one I have of Harvard and Sara Holmes' Mooney. That milky look is because Sara was waxing it before leaving Concord. She didn't get finished. I sure hope she had enough energy after we got back to wipe all that wax off. |
|
Someone told me soon after moving to Concord that we don't need navigation equipment to find Concord. If you are anywhere in Northern California, just look for Mt. Diablo sticking up above the smog layer and point your airplane at it. Before you get to it, you will see the airport.. That is very true on a fairly clear day. I have seen it as soon as crossing Reno on the way west. And from Redding when south bound and from Harris Ranch north bound. A good nav/aid, better than a VOR. But I still like the GPS for groundspeed readout. |
